Deb Wessler is an Anchorage singer-songwriter & guitar and banjo
player. Her love of acoustic music was surely influenced by her early
years in rural Eastern Oregon and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Deb first began writing music and playing publicly when she was a graduate
student at Washington State University.
Deb Wessler
is currently performing Original Acoustic & Bluegrass Music in the
band "Homespun" with Ken Olmstead on lead guitar and mandolin.
She is in the process of writing and recording her third album.
Deb's first
visit to Anchorage in 1979 coincided with the renaissance that was happening
in traditional acoustic music throughout Alaska. It was at this time
that she developed her passion for outdoor music festivals.
In Summer
of ‘82 it became clear that her call to head North could no longer
be ignored…Deb made some of her first public appearances with
a family bluegrass band at places like the Montana Creek Lodge and Willow
Trading post.
Throughout
the late 80’s and mid 90’s Deb performed in a duet called
“Homespun” with another singer-songwriter-guitarist, occasionally
accompanied by a flutist or violinist.
By 1999
Deb had recorded and co-produced her first original CD, “Story
Behind the Song”, with Dennis Lind at Soul Searchers Studio in
Anchorage. On “Story”, Deb is joined by Anchorage musicians
Laura Hall (Harmony Vocals), Gary Markley (Banjo), Joe Page (Mandolin),
Dawn Lindsay (Violin), Terry Klemensen (Acoustic Bass), and Tony Restivo
of The Photonz (Electric Bass)…
In the
year 2000 Deb set out to write the music for her second original CD,
“Honeybee”, recorded and co-produced with Don Morrell of
Toneworks Studio in Anchorage. “Honeybee” is another who’s
who of Alaska’s finest musicians with Ken Terry on banjo, Dawn
Lindsay on violin, Jason Norris of “Bearfoot Bluegrass”
on mandolin, Don Morrell on lead guitar & electric bass, Linda Morrell
on harmony vocals. Also featured are Meg Anderson on harmony vocals
and electric bass, Kris Rosentrater on percussion and Terry Klemensen
on acoustic bass. Anchorage photographer, Lisa Seifert, of Wolf Studios,
did the fabulous camera work for the project.
